Bleedin' Blogs

We've now hit February 2nd ...

And still trying to navigate my way around the blog-site. I've made a couple of minor edits okay, but don't feel really confident about the whole thing. I've got a bid in on Ebay for a Garmin GPS, so hoping to get this bit of kit ticked off the trips wish-list. On that note ... now have some bike boots (thanks Kim) and a tent on the way too.

Am currently frustrated with Blogspot here ..... I've tried numerous times to edit out a bit in an earlier posting, after leaving a comment following a blue with Kim. After a dozen attempts at editing then re-posting, it still sits in the pre-published version laughing at me. And that's not all .... don't seem to be able to get it to upload photo's. Unless I can get this to work reliably will be of little use when on Walkabout 'proper' later this year. F'Chrissakes this a try-out!!!!

Let's have another go in this completely new posting.

Doh!!! I worked this time!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaand, its one of me n' Kim just after I'd bought the Sportster.

Hey, Cool looking bike! Shame, it's no good for the big trip I'm planning. I've really thought about it. No, honestly ... I have! And to any dyed-in-the- wool Harley Davidson nutters out there, who think you can go anywhere, anytime on an HD (well, you could I suppose). But I don't think it's being realistic.

A New Year

A quick update in mid-January. The winter doldrums are making everything look (and feel) damp and grey. We had a good break over in Egypt (see other Blog), but that's fast becoming a memory. Work's continuing as dull as dishwater, but have a CAD training course soon. With luck that might inject a modicom of interest. I don't feel the house in France is making any progress due to the time of year. Shame that, as having a wedge of dosh on the horizon would make things seem more bouyant. I wanna go looking at Transalps .... and feel that's holding back plans

But hey .... got some good bikin kit on Ebay. Top jacket, good strides and now looking at getting a GPS unit. HG shorty boots are on order too, and with plenty of cold wet stuff to come they'll be very welcome.

Birthday bash at the Kashmiri this Saturday, so looking forward to seeing everyone then .....

'Kay ... am gonna wrap it for the moment, as I don't have much to say.

Setting up Blog

Early November 2006

Well Hi there everyone ....... My first bit of blurb in readiness for next years walkabout. I've got around 11 months left for planning and research, and thought it'd be good idea to get my head around this side of things.

After spending hours trolling through Horizon's Unlimited have now made a start on finding out about visa's, carnets and shipping. Also, that Burma's dead in the water and China, no chance as a ride-around alternative. Hence the realisation that me n' the bike (yet to be bought) will have to have hitch a ride on a plane at some stage. Vet' travellers will no doubt smile at my naivete ... but then, guess that's what it's all about. It's a big world out there. And as Elton's Lion King song say's. 'There's just too much to see, and too much to do'.

A month on .... 2.12.06

Well, not quite a month having only just hit December. Don't think I've made much progress towards the big Walkabout, having bought (then took back) some weatherproof mo'bike leggings. The Anti-dog device is on the way (will explain later), plus have made moves to sell the house in France.

I'm well pee'd off at work after a few frantic days this week. Mostly cos it seems they're putting the thumb-screws onto the workforce in many different ways. The slow-down in production due to FAL hold-ups have prompted a new hard attitude from the 'grown-ups' in the company. AUK seems to be suffering from Corporate miasma and drowning in bureaucracy. Process and procedure over-rules the practical and pragmatic every time. Anyway ... I don't wanna get started on that, as this is meant to be just a quick update.

Oh, and also I've been hot on the trail of work hunting Down-under, by making a few job applications in an effort to make new contacts in the trade.

Ooh, ooh! Seen a Transalp in passing a while back and it looks like it could be the biz' for my needs. But have to make some real dosh available prior to going out looking to buy.

M'thinks the Christmas mini-walkabout in Egypt could do with some planning as it's only three weeks or so off now. I've mailed Mr Abdul at the Sherief Luxor, to see if I can arrange accommodation upfront ... I'm still a 'ways off' being fluent in Blog, as I have to scrabble about trying to edit and add stuff, and am not yet familiar with the format of this bloody thing yet. Guess I'll have to spend more time and effort on it then!
